Justice Unlocked
The justice system touches all of us — but most of us were never taught how it works. Justice Unlocked is Down by Law's flagship program, designed to change that.
Through two core offerings, we open the door to knowledge that has historically been reserved for those who could afford it.
Reentry Simulations Most people don't understand what life after incarceration actually feels like until it becomes their reality. Our immersive reentry simulations walk participants through the real barriers — housing, employment, supervision requirements, and more — that individuals face when coming home. These sessions build empathy, awareness, and practical understanding for returning citizens, their families, and anyone who wants to show up for their community more meaningfully.
Court System Education Do you know what happens after an arrest? How a judge is selected? What your rights are inside a courtroom? Most people don't — and that gap costs communities dearly. Our court system education sessions break down how Alabama's courts operate in plain, accessible language. No law degree required. These sessions are open to everyone — justice-impacted families, students, faith communities, advocates, and curious citizens alike.
Justice Unlocked is for anyone who believes that understanding the system is the first step to changing it.
